The Water Valley boys basketball team defeated Panther Creek 89-32 on Friday night in the area round of the playoffs. With the win, the Wildcats are advancing to the regional quarterfinals for a second straight year.

"This is just a small step to where we want to go. We still have the bitter loss of last year against Lipan with us and we want to get that out this year," said Trae Hannon.

"We didn't celebrate the win. We watched a team a few days ago celebrate and jump and our kids didn't. They walked to the huddle, shook the coaches hand and we started taking pictures. They didn't celebrate. They know this was not our goal as we began the year. We still have some games out there that we want to go get after," added Head Coach Andy Copley.
