"Being able to do that for coach Brooks and for the program getting to beat a team like that was really cool," said Michael Weatherly.
"It shows we should have some confidence and feel like we are a good team, because they are definitely a national power," added Kevin Brooks.
Between Michael Weatherly and Michael Langue, the starting pitching in the series was outstanding. The duo struck out a combined 17 batters and gave up just five earned runs.
"I was pumped up, had a lot of adrenaline going in that first inning as soon as I stepped out there. I was just fired up ready to go in the home opening game," said Weatherly.
"Mike did a great job of going out and attacking hitters, not going deep in the counts. Again you get eight innings out of him with ten strikeouts that shows you how good. I mean I think he was 80 percent first pitch strikes. You do that with the stuff he's got, he's probably going to be pretty successful," added Brooks.
The bullpen was a different story. It gave up seventeen runs in game two of the series after starter Jake Feckley left the mound.
"We're concerned right now. We aren't healthy. Church is out that's our closer and then Feckley going down after one guy, that causes some concerns and so we got to have two or three guys step up fill those roles and get back healthy. I feel like if we get back healthy we are fine," said Brooks.
