San Angelo, Texas--When January ends, and the page on the calendar turns,Belles softball's quest towards success will officially begin.

"We're ready to see a different color uniform and our pitchers especially are ready to face some different hitters because it's the same hitters out every day when you are seeing the same looks so we're pumped that the season is here," Head Coach Travis Scott said.

"We've put in months of hard work and just to see it pay off it's really exciting, " Carly Peters added.

The hard work that they've put in has not just translated to the field.

"Coming together as a team is always a big important part and you get to work on that in the fall but it really comes together in the spring when you play other teams and face adversity," Carly Peters explains.

They feel everyone becoming a unit will provide crucial benefits as time progresses.

"Being able to really get a feel for each other on these first couple of games so that later in the conference, later in the season, we'll be able to mesh together," added Rachel Moore.

The Belles enter the season ranked 4th which is their highest ranking since 2005, and in order to maintain these expectations everyone will have to be ready to play from senior to freshman, which is not unusual for a Travis Scott coached team.

"I don't really look at how old they are when they get here," Scott says.  "I'll sit a Senior just as well as I'll sit a freshman, that's the philosophy that I've always had we're going to put the best nine out there and go that route."

The Belles open play Friday in the St. Mary's tournament.
