Law enforcement officials evacuated the Verizon building on Johnson Avenue to investigate a suspicious item Monday night.

San Angelo Police, Goodfellow Air Force Base and the City Marshall were on the scene to investigate a cooler left in front of the building earlier Monday evening. According to the City Fire Marshal, a Verizon employee saw a man leave the cooler in front of the building, and later phoned police around 7:30PM. Officials blocked off Johnson Avenue and University Avenue near Verizon while employees were evacuated. The Goodfelllow K9 Unit was used to determine that there was no explosive device in the cooler, in fact, investigators discovered a bottle of Coca-Cola and ice.
