More than 20 countries are being represented in the Attaché Agriculture tour of Texas. The tour stopped in San Angelo Wednesday. Jennifer Jackson Reports. The Texas Agricultural industry is in the spot light this month. The U.S. department of Agriculture choose Texas to host the annual attaché tour. The tour includes agricultural representatives from more than 20 different countries to learn about the ag business in Texas. Im most impressed about diversified Texas is. Before you get here you think of Texas of cattle and cotton. Says the New Zealand representative, Fiona Hutchinson. This week the tour stopped in San Angelo, to give the dignitaries an opportunity to learn about the goat and sheep industry. Out here at the Extension center and gave an overview of that, and also a tour of the cotton industry in the Wall valley. Says the marketing specialist, Brad Roeder. Currently Texas is the leading state for U.S. cotton exports. According to U.S. Ag reports, the Texas Ag industry made 3-point-8 billion dollars in combined export sales. The attaché tour encourages friendly relations with all participating countries in hopes of increasing profits. Oh differently, were working on the sales of lamb. Lamb is cheaper here than many countries in the world. You develop friendly relations. And so you can have a friendly face in that country when you do business. Says Hutchinson and Roeder The U.S. Ag Department felt The Lone Star State was appropriate to host this years tour...because the Texas Dept. of Agriculture is celebrating 100 years of business.
