First Day of School

By: Nicole Sanchez
Updated: August 27, 2007
Monday wasnt only a big day for the administration but also the students and their parents. Especially the ones taking their children to their first day of school. Nicole Sanchez takes us to the kindergarten class at Fort Concho. "I was dreading this day to come, but its here,” Fort Concho Kindergartner Mother says. The day that marks the beginning of a new chapter in hundreds of SAISD kindergartner’s lives, their first day of school. "Well, I thanked God that he woke up okay, he was not crying, and he got up, got dressed and ready to go,” Fort Concho Kindergartner Mother says. This mother along with several other parents had to make other arrangements with their regular morning routines to make sure that their student was ready to go. "I took the morning off to go to school and be with him for a little bit to see how hes going to react,” Fort Concho Kindergartner Mother says. "Shes really shy, and Im afraid that shes going to be left behind,” Mother Smichea Haynes says. Mother Daisy Andrea says, "Ive got a little better, I was kind of nervous at first but it seems like it is a good environment for him, so Ill be all right." Although some of the parents might have been more nervous than their Fort Concho Pioneers, it was a day that the kindergartners were awaiting for. “She’s excited, she was ready to come,” Mother Tammy Ramon says. “He’s ready, he’s been ready since last night and this is a good school,” Christina Felix says. Even though it might seem forever until this class of 2020 graduates from high school, it’s a journey that the parents will accompany their children to. “I cant even imagine her going to college, not yet, shes still my baby,” Tammy Ramon says.
