Repairs continued Wednesday on a damaged wastewater main that leaked into the South Concho River. According to the San Angelo Water Utilities Department, the repair work is on schedule. All of the wastewater flow has now been contained in the pipeline, and is no longer spilling into the river. Authorities are not expecting any new water quality results until Thursday, but local residents are still advised not to swim, fish, or come into contact with the water of the South Concho River until further notice. Authorities say that it is a good idea for people to avoid all local rivers for the time being, regardless of the wastewater spill. The recent heavy rains washed an above average amount of contaminates into local waterways.
