Baylor Bears Football Coach talks to school employees

San Angelo school district employees returned to work for the fall semester today -- they met this morning for a convocation featuring longtime Baylor Bears coach Grant Teaff as the keynote speaker. The San Angelo independent school district employs more than 2,000 people, making it the third largest employer in the city. This convocation at the Junell center was a chance for school employees to come together under one roof, for a pep rally and a pat on the back. Carol Ann Bonds, superintendent -- a real shot in the arm, understanding that every single person in this room from our bus drivers, custodians, teachers, secretaries are very critical to our school district. We cant have school without each group of those folks. Grant Teaff -- each of you have to determine, number one, what your role is, and secondly, how you may play that role to the top of your game. That also was the message from guest speaker, former Baylor university head football coach Grant Teaff. Teaff -- every member of a team contributes to the success of the team. And it doesnt matter your position. You have to lift yourself to the highest level to which you can perform. For Teaff this was a homecoming of sorts for the former Baylor coach. Earlier in his career he coached at Angelo State University in the late 1960s and early 70s. Currently he serves as director of the American football coaches association. For superintendent Carol Ann Bonds, this marks the beginning of her first full school year with SAISD. She assumed her duties in January. Bonds -- I am so blessed to be here. It has so exceeded my hopes. For teachers, administrators and staff, this was a time to join hands, figuratively and literally, and to keep in mind that theyre all working for one common goal.
