After a few months of summer vacation, some Cornerstone Christian Students headed back to the school house. Nicole Sanchez has more on of the earliest schools around the Concho Valley to start their new year. Wednesday morning marked the beginning of a new academic year for Cornerstone Christian School.
"First day of school. Great, I see lots of smiles, we just enjoy being here," Administrator Grady Roe says.
"I was ready for it, I was really happy to go," first day student, Sam Tom says.
Tom started the beginning of his school career in grade K4. He along with over 200 students took part in their first day back in the books.
"We'll start with 238 students, this is an increase, we're up a 10%-15%, we have a total of 50-60 new students here, it's the most in recent times," Roe says.
Each grade has the maximum of allowing about 20 students in the class and Mr. Roe says that due to the school's enrollment growth this year, it's lead to some people having to be turned away.
"Our younger kids K5-1st grade our heavy, in fact most of the elementary classes are. we're just about at maximum, we started a waiting list," Roe says.
So now that the balls rolling of another year, what are the Cornerstone Lions resolutions that they hope to accomplish this new academic term?
"The goals that we have set this year is we want to take every student that we have as far as we can take them, educationally, spiritually. We try to provide and opportunity for them to beat life's problems and teach them how to study and learn and just take them as far as we can take them," Roe says.
The school day runs from 8:00 AM thru 3:30 PM.
