With the help of a proposed city wide improvement plan, many streets, parks and traffic signals may get a face-lift. Assistant City Manager, Elizabeth Grindstaff has been busy the past nine months preparing for this city-wide program.
"I think in fact, this is the first try capital improvement program that our citizens have seen,” Grindstaff says.
San Angeloans will have the chance to see the proposed plan at a public meeting that will be held May 8th, affecting many projects across town.
“These are large capital items that pertain to streets, water lines, sewer lines, water plants, sewer plants park construction or reconstruction. Fire station needs that the police department and just anything within the city organization,” Grindstaff explains.
If this is passed by the City Council, it will have the time table of five years. Grindstaff hopes that this approach will meet the needs of both the city and its citizens.
“Really what we`ve done is take a different approach to say here are their needs, these are the needs of the city now what kind of financing can we look at and how can we structure that so that the tax payer can afford it and yet we get the construction and the needs met,” Grindstaff says.
The capital improvements plan meeting will be held at the Convention Center in meeting rooms 111-114 at 7:00PM Tuesday night.
