For the first time, the American Junior Rodeo Association finals are being held in San Angelo at the spur arena. Monday night at the spur arena -- judges timed girls competing in barrel racing. Young cowgirls and cowboys accumulate points at sanctioned rodeos during the year to compete in the finals. The A-J-R-A is modeled after the pro-rodeo cowboys association. Some top professionals like roper Roy Cooper and bull rider Tuff Hedeman got their start in the A-J-R-A. The competition continues Tuesday night with an A-J-R-A finals rodeo performance at the spur arena.
