Mandy Scott says "we stock fish in one spot in the city every two weeks during the year. Channel catfish from March through November and rainbow trout during the winter months.
The fish stocking program gives city dwellers a convenient place to fish. The stocked fish have usually been in the river a short time and are good to eat.
Mandy Scott says " the fish here in San Angelo come from the Possum Kingdom hatchery. They have been here a few weeks at the most by the time you catch them. There are no contaminant problems in this part of the river.
The equipment can be checked out for free from the City Recreation Department at the Sante Fe Building. Just show your drivers license, sign the form, and you may use up to five rods and a tackle box for up to a week.
Mandy Scott says " we set up a tackle loaner site. This is in cooperation with the city Rec. Department. San Angelo Bass Club and Field & Stream donated some stuff so we can have a free loaner tackle program.
A freshwater fishing license is required for fishing in the stocked river for persons age 17 and over. The limit is five fish per day per person.
Mandy Scott says " we really want people to take their kids out and get them involved in outdoor recreation, fishing especially.
