On Wednesday AEP Texas made an important contribution to one of the local non profit organizations in San Angelo.
"This is probably the best program we`ve ever offered to our customers."
Fred Hernandez, with AEP Texas, presented Meet in the Middle with a check for a little more than $12,000 that was used to purchase two brand new air conditioning systems.
Hernandez said, "They applied for a grant through AEP Texas and because of their non profit status and the work they do, the need for the equipment, we were able to give them a rebate to fully fund their new air conditioning systems."
Glenn Luhrs, Executive Director for Meet in the Middle, said the organization really needed the assistance.
Luhrs said, "One of the units we had in front of the building was broken entirely. We`ve been in this building for about a year now and we made a lot of renovations to it and then one of our heating and air conditioning units failed entirely so this grant, it absolutely saved our mission."
Meet in the Middle is a visitation and exchange program for children whose parents are going through a divorce or separation process. The parents are supervised during visitation and the environment is family friendly so the experience can be positive one for everyone involved.
"One of the things that our programs offer is an opportunity for a child to have access to their parents in a conflict free environment on a consistent basis and you know a very supportive environment as well," said Luhrs.
Hernandez said it`s a tremendous feeling to know that they can provide assistance to an organization so they can continue to focus on making families in San Angelo better.
"For them not to have to worry about the heating and cooling while they`re trying to provide the critical services in the community they provide, you bet it`s a great feeling to us and it`s a great feeling to me personally," said Hernandez.
The grant Meet in the Middle applied for was the 2007 Energy Efficiency Grant and any non-profit organization can apply. For more information visit the A.E.P. Texas website.
