Former San Angelo Residents Charged With Fraud

By: KLST Staff
Updated: July 12, 2007
Members of a federal grand jury have indicted three former San Angelo residents on charges they received thousands of dollars in government funding after making false claims as hurricane victims. 53-year-old Sandra Howell, her fiance 46-year-old Gregory Chaisson, and his brother 44-year-old Charles Chaisson are all accused of receiving about 30-thousand dollars in federal disaster assistance funds following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. They came to San Angelo from Lafayette, Louisiana in 2005 -- documents indicate the three gave false information claiming to have lived in an area damaged by a hurricane. Charges include mail fraud, wire fraud, making false claims, and theft of government funds.
