Its one of the largest conventions of the year for the Jehovahs Witnesses district and they are having it right here in San Angelo this weekend. Here’s the story on how attendees hope this 3 day retreat will leave a powerful message.
“Sigamos a Cristo” or follow The Christ, a message that 3,000 Jehovahs Witnesses have gathered at the San Angelo Coliseum in hopes of spreading.
“Christ actually taught us to go from house to house and to preach and do make disciples and that’s what we do is to encourage people to be prepared to go from house to house and show people what Christ wants us to do thru the bible,” Convention Overseer, Gabriel Garza says.
So with their bibles and guest speakers and songs, all ages of Jehovahs Witnesses hope to grow closer to their faith during this event which began on Friday and runs thru Sunday at the San Angelo Coliseum.
“This is the 3rd Consecutive year that we’ve held it here at the Coliseum and we’ve been really pleased with the cooperation of the city and the hotels and the community at large,” Garza says.
There are approximately 6 million Jehovahs Witnesses across the world and in order to spread the word to all this population a district convention such as this one allows that to happen.
Osmero Esquivel a Jehovahs Witnesses says “This is a Spanish convention we’re having 13 conventions this summer in 13 languages and many are in Spanish and so the entire program is in Spanish.”
Although this convention occurs only 3 days, attendees are trusting that the teachings will carry on from here on out to “Follow the Christ.”
“I hope that they leave with knowing that we as Jehovahs Witnesses do believe in Christ, there are a lot of people that we meet house for house that asks us do you really believe in Jesus Christ, of course we do. He’s the mediator he’s the one that we have to go thru to Jehovah in order to receive his blessing. And so yes we do believe in Christ and that’s what we want them to leave with,” Garza says.
