The San Angelo Police Department is looking for a suspect in a fatal hit and run accident. Jason Calder spoke with police officials and has more.

The San Angelo Police Department is searching for information after a hit and run accident killed a San Angelo man.

Curtis Milbourn, Public Information Officer with the S.A.P.D., said, “About in the morning, a passerby called our dispatch office and reported an unconscious individual in the roadway just south of

11th street
on Magdalen. We sent officers up there and it turned out to be a victim of a hit and run. He was deceased there."

72-year-old Lorenzo Arteaga Junior was the pedestrian killed in the accident. Milbourn said they are searching for any possible leads in the case.

He said, "There is evidence from the accident we have but anyone who saw anything, anybody that has any information. It would certainly help the case if we can hear from them."

Milbourn said the situation shouldn't be taken lightly and to never flee the scene of a hit and run.

He adds, "It is our duty as responsible citizens to keep our community safe. It doesn't just fall on the police or the fire department. If the driver that struck Mr. Arteaga had stopped, might Mr. Arteaga still be alive? We don't know for sure but certainly there's a much greater chance that he would have survived then."

Arteaga's body has been sent to Lubbock for an autopsy and the incident is still under investigation. Right now the hit and run driver would be charged with failure to stop and render aid but Milbourn says other legal action is possible. If you have any information you urged to call 657-4253.
