Drug-stores across the country reported brisk sales for a controversial new diet pill that is now available over the counter. The pill prevents your system from absorbing fat.

But now there's an easy way for people to shed the pounds. What use to be a prescription weight loss drug has been made available over the counter and is FDA approved.
The Alli pill.
Randy Coleman/ Lost 200 pounds: The pill that's out has been around for awhile and known as xenical, and is now out in a new form. What it does is helps the body not absorb fat. So when you eat some butter or whatever it is. A percentage of the fat will not be absorb in the system.
The alli pill seems to be the solution to most people's problem. A pill that absorbs fat, people eat. But is it really the answer?
Brett allen/ losing weight : It's one thing to take the weight off it's another thing to maintain it. It may be blocking fat or carbs or whatever it may be but, you're still not developing the right habits and consuming those things that are nutritious.
Randy coleman/ lost 200 pounds: There is no magic bullet, there is no magic cure to anything, there is no magic pill. If you're on a low fat diet already this pill will not help you much. Those soft drinks drinks are about 250 calories, but that's zero fat from the 250 calories. If you take that pill with no fat, there is nothing to absorb. This is for folks that are consuming a real high fat diet.
For the most part there aren't many side effects to taking the pill.
Randy coleman/ lost 200 pounds: The other problem about going to the bathroom with this pill is...you may eat a high fat meal like at noon, and then at 4 you're driving your car and then all of a sudden. You do it a couple of times, experience this problem a couple of times, you may want to start re-think the food you eat.
Health experts urge people to consult with a physician before starting any diet or exercise program.
The medication costs a little more than one dollar and fifty cents a day, bottles sell for a range of 50 to 60 dollars a bottle.
