Atreyo Carter Sentenced

Atreyo Carter III left the Tom Green County Courthouse Thursday after pleading guilty to a charge of Injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.
In April of last year, Carter was arrested for the murder of 11- month- old Andrea Hernandez after and incident at the 4200 block of south Bryant.
Autopsy reports show Hernandez died from blunt force trauma.
"She's in a better place and I know I will see her one day."
After the plea deal was accepted, A judge sentenced Carter to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
"I didn't think it was enough, but if he would have gotten life I wouldn't think it was enough."
The child's mother Eristea Hernandez along with family and friends entered the Courthouse to hear the plea deal -- wearing blue t-shirts -- symbolyzing Child Abuse Awareness.
After almost a year, the healing process can finally begin.
"This is just the first step of moving forward and having closure. Without the family and friends support that I have in this community, I couldn't be where I'm at today. "
Hernandez gave a statement in the courtroom Thursday, ending with expressing her forgiveness toward Carter.
"We believe that God has given us the justice and we're ready to move on with our lives."
