Four Concho Valley women received recognition Thursday night as "Women of Distinction."

The awards each year are sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. This year's recipients are Kay Campbell of Paint Rock and Loleta Barnhart, Mary Herbert and Susan Woods of San Angelo.

They're being recognized for their work and accomplishment not only in the community, but also as role models for girls.

"You don't have to be rich. You don't have to be of any certain background to do good for the world and that's what's cool about Girls Scouts is that we're going to have Girl Scouts here that see who their role models are. We've got all different types of background here. We've got a rancher, we've got a portrait studio lady here, an architect."

In the Concho Valley region, the former El Camino Girl Scouts Council is now part of the Girl Scouts of Central Texas base in Austin.
