San Angelo, TX--It was a playoff atmosphere Tuesday night in the Junell Center, with rabid fans, hustle plays, and the district championship on the line for Christoval and TLCA. Khalid Valencia, a Senior Guard for TLCA said it was "a lot of pressure."

"It was stressful, but the guys really stepped up in the 2nd half and played good defense and we knew that it was going to be like the first two games and I was just proud of the way the guys stepped up and challeneged them on defense and we pulled out a win," Head Coach Tim Howard said.

The win was TLCA's first UIL district championship.

"It means everything, it's history, it's in the books for TLCA history, I mean, there's not much more to say," explained Valencia.

"Oh that feeling was awesome, everything was going through my mind about the years past playing basketball, it was great to finally have a winning season," Junior Guard Bryce Todd added.

"Doing it at this school, it's a big accomplishment being the first team to do it it's better than anything," said TLCA's Trey Mayberry.

Christoval lost but are the district co-champions.

"I'm extremely proud of this bunch of young men," Christoval Coach Gerald Butts declared. "I mean they overachieved in a lot of areas and like I say, we fell a little short tonight but it wasn't because of a lack of effort, I mean these kids layed it on the line, and like I say, we're looking forward to the playoffs."

Now that they're both in the playoffs, both teams will want to cut down the nets, next week.
