An American Dream

                  After years of waiting for several visitors in our Country, they are now American Citizens. 38 people took the oath of American Citizenship today at the Federal Courthouse in San Angelo. They received a certificate declaring them American citizens and for some that piece of paper is a new beginning.


                For several years Mexican born, Fabiola Varela has been waiting for this day. “I feel Free,” Varela says. She along with 37 others was granted with this freedom,  Friday morning at a Naturalization Ceremony held at the Federal Courthouse. This American story that included a diverse group of citizens from 15 other countries. From India, France, Lebanon, Russia and Canada are just some of the countries that were represented at Friday’s ceremony.

            26 year old Anna Reimer has been waiting for this day for 20 years. “I was born in Mexico but I applied with this thru my Canadian Citizenship.” Reimer says. “It’s the greatest feeling in the world, I’ve lived here since I was 6 years old and we’ve been working on this forever since I can do so much now that I couldn’t do before, most importantly I can vote,” Reimer says.
          
            A right as an American that Reimer along with Varela is thrilled to now have. “Now it’s like I’m born again in a way, I’m born again this is what shows me being born again, and starting a new and doing new things,” Varela says. Varela knows that her mother’s sacrifices did not go in vain for her to see this day. “I was thinking about my mother and how she worked very had to bring us here to the US and she accomplished all on her own and I wish she was her but she’s not, she’s in my heart and still with me.”

          Now Varela along with 37 other has a chance to achieve the American dream. “It’s in a way like I was in a shell and like I’m out to fly that’s what I’m going to do,” Varela says.
