It began last year and it was a success. Friday the 2nd Annual Festival on the Concho gets underway where 15 to 20 thousand are expected to attend. After a year of planning for Donna Cates and The Jr. League of San Angelo, it’s finally here. “I just right now picture what it’s going to look like out here tomorrow evening, and it’s a great feeling and then we know when Friday comes at 4:00PM this hard work we’ve spent all year has paid off,” Cates says. Preparations got underway Thursday afternoon for the 2nd Annual Festival on the Concho, with the days scheduled for fun for all ages. Cates describes, “We’ve got shopping for the women, entertainment stage, there’s bands that are going on, we’ve got a huge children’s area, food so they can actually come out here and spend the entire day watch all the river events and Friday night a concert and actually plan around the family, it’s a family atmosphere.” The Concho River played the home of Fiesta del Concho for many years, gathering families and memories a tradition that the Jr. League hopes will continue. San Angeloan and Jr. League member, Amy Hill remembers Fiesta del Concho as a child, “Fiesta was on 4 years as far as I can remember as a little girl and it took about a 5 year or 6 year break and the beginning of 2 years ago the Jr. League came in and thought this would be a great fundraiser for us.” A memory that Cates recalls also, “Back then I remember there was actually a river parade and later went to the streets, but those we’re some of the highlights and that’s our purpose is we want to bring back those highlights we can’t do it all in one or two years but over a period of time we hope we can bring it all back.” Bringing it back to the next generation.
