Fatal Fire

A tragic turn of events today in San Angelo as firefighters respond to an early morning blaze and discover the body of an elderly woman. Marcus Officer has more on the story.

"Close to five o'clock this morning we found the body of a 75 year old female".

One woman is dead after a fire tore through this home on the 700 block of South Randolph street early Friday morning.

Investigators say the intensity of the flames and the heavy damage caused was so extensive they are still looking into the cause of the fire but they do not suspect foul play...

"We're not going to know at this point whether it was electric or what the cause could be. There were a couple of space heaters in the area as well but we're not able to tell at this time."

Investigators say that no one else was living in the home and are awaiting all family members to be notified before releasing the name of the victim.

"The deceased has been taken to Lubbock for an autopsy and the police department is handling that end of the investigation."

This is the second fatal fire in a matter of months in San Angelo.

With the winter temperatures now consistently cooler, the city of San Angelo fire marshal stresses that people should take precaution when using space and electrical heaters to warm their homes.

People are encouraged to purchase and regularly maintenance smoke detectors and place them in and around all sleeping rooms in the home.

Smoke detectors can be purchased at any local stores such as Lowes or home depot...
