The Art Museum Music Chamber provided excellent acoustics for the strings, wind instruments, and percussion of the performing group Wayanay Inka. Howard Taylor says "chamber music is music designed for large rooms. The Museum has a wonderfully rich acoustic room." The traditional music of the Andes Mountains features flutes and guitars. The Peruvian performers at the Museum learned to play between the ages of eight and ten. Kose Albornoz says "our family were musicians also, not professional musicians, but they play traditional music. We learned from them the flutes and guitars and kept the tradition." Sikus and quenas are flutes made from bamboo canes. Kose Albornoz says "the quena is a piece of bamboo with several holes without a mouthpiece. The quenas come in different sizes for different pitches." The origins of the Andean South American music goes back over 3000 years. The instruments are designed to capture the sounds of nature. Kose Albornoz says "antara of bamboo canes, and ocarinas made of clay to imitate birds and sounds of nature."
