Tom Green County Commissioners Approve Budget

By: KLST News
Updated: September 10, 2007
Tom Green county commissioners Monday approved the budget for fiscal year 2007 -- with a tax rate increase of a fraction of a cent per 100 dollars of property value. Commissioners made last-minute revisions before giving final approval to the 30-point-4 million dollar budget. The tax rate is 52 and a half cents per hundred dollars valuation, three tenths of a cent from the current rate of 52-point-two cents. The new budget includes raises for some elected officials -- except commissioners and the county judge -- and the purchase of new equipment. "The only reason weve had to raise the property tax the less than a third of a cent that we did is to fund the purchase of equipment, so that we can deal with our infrastructure, our roads, bridges, things like that." The new budget and tax rate go into effect October first.
