From helping women find a job, to learning how to budget their own money. It's been in existence since 2001 and it has changed dozens of women’s life for the best. It's called Christian Women's Job Corps . KSAN’S Nicole Sanchez has the story on how one past participant found comfort in this program to succeed in the work world. "We've made bad choices okay, let's dust ourselves off, pick ourselves up and get over it and move on,” says Olga Cuellar, site coordinator of Christian Women’s Job Corps.
Giving Women the opportunity for a new beginning is the Christian Women's Job Corps mission.
"I guess I have always had a love and a care for women and how God can change women's lives,” Cuellar says.
One of the 68 women's lives who have been changed with this 8 week program is Anita Salan. This program has provided a place for Salan to be equipped for life and employment in a Christian environment.
"I needed this because I had been out of the workforce for 3 years and I was beginning to get depressed and even though I was involved with the church helping out and things like that and volunteer work. I felt like I needed to get myself back up again,” Anita Salan says.
And that is exactly what Salan accomplished. She went from unemployed to employed as a spa's receptionist. And she gives thanks to these free classes for preparing her for this job.
Salan says, “I learned a lot of things that I was not aware of that are out in the work world and I knew very little about computers and one of the things I know that this world changing is changing and we need a lot of computer skills.”
Now that this goal is accomplished for Salan, her next aspiration is to earn a college degree. The experience that she had with the core is one that she hopes other women will also seek.
“This gave me a direction and I think that every woman that is lost right now, even though that she's working she should take advantage of a program like this because they're going to direct you in the right way,” Salan says.
