It's a popular destination, for thousands of people that were off for Labor Day, Lake Nasworthy. Nicole Sanchez has more on how many celebrated what is often thought as the last summertime vacation. It was all about food, fun and family this Labor Day weekend at Lake Nasworthy as thousands enjoyed their last summertime holiday of the year.
Chief of Lake and Park Police, Tinker Owens says, "It's the last holiday of the season. Most of the people, families, whether it's in town or out of town. It's a big camping holiday."
And it’s also a big weekend for this Midland Family, making this the 15th year that they have come to Lake Nasworthy to celebrate their 3 day weekend.
"Just the fact that we got an extra day of the weekend," Midland Camper says.
"The weather's been really nice, but we brought our fans and everything. My dad brought everything for us, we're not hot or cold, we're just having fun in the water," Camper says.
From water to land, Owens says that as many as 10,000 visitors packed the outdoors to get their last vacation in before the winter months.
"We had about 5,000 that came thru our gates for days areas come and spend the day and go home each day and we have about 5,000 campers and that's just based on what we had for the two gates. Middle Concho and Spring Creek, that doesn't account for the people that have across to the lake from other residents we don't charge a fee to get in," Owens says.
Although these Labor Day vacationers will be packing up their gear to head back to work Tuesday, it was a weekend well spent.
"Oh yeah, I'll come back again, I like it out here, it's relaxing." The next big weekend for the Lake Police is Easter Weekend 2008.
