software2007-08-28-1188349959.jpgCounty Commissioners approved a 1.7 million dollar software purchase from Tyler Technologies. The package will service records for the courts, sheriff, and finance department. Mike Brown says "Windows web based software takes place of the old UNIX mainframe software which has out lived its useful life." The upgrade is expected to be more user friendly for county employees and allow the public internet access to some county records. Mike Brown says "we hope that utilizing this software we will have the ability to put more public records online so the public can access them on the internet." The software installation will be complete in eighteen months and is expensed into the budget over a three year period. Next years county budget was up for public comment in the meeting. Dianna Spieker says "the approximate increase is 4.7 percent over last year. The largest percentage of the cost is associated with salaries." In addition to merit based pay raises, the county budget is growing due to infrastructure costs. Dianna Spieker says "the portion is infrastructure items we have to maintain so our buildings do not crumble or we get caught with no air conditioning or water leaks." In other business, Commissioners approved issuance of a five year note at 3.874%. The proceeds of 1.8 million dollars will be used to finance capital expenditures.
