First Social Services Symposium

By: KLST News
Updated: August 27, 2007
For the first time -- workers and volunteers with more than two dozen social service agencies got together in San Angelo for a symposium Monday. Members of 27 different non-profit agencies were at the convention center. The organizations provide a range of services to people around the Concho Valley -- from children to the elderly -- to those those who need jobs. Bishop Michael Pfeifer -- whos Concho valley cares coalition helped sponsor the symposium -- along with the mayors office -- said agencies workers and volunteers also learned about combining forces to improve the community. "There are overlapping services at times people do not realize what an agency is doing or addressing a certain social condition so it is helping to inform the social agencies as well as providing a list of agencies for the community." Each of the organizations presentations was recorded on video -- and will be saved for a variety of uses -- including airing on the citys channel 17.
