breaking news
Stay out of the South Concho River, that was the message coming from the City of San Angelo Monday. According to city workers, wastewater from the cities collection system spilled into the South Concho River between Chadborne Street and Paint Rock Road. The spill was reported to the city this past Saturday. Work crews say the spill appears to have caused by a blockage in a 30 inch wastewater collector main. Water quality tests are being conducted on the South Concho River downstream from the spill. For the time being, everyone is advised not to swim, fish, or come into contact with the water of the river between Chadbourne Street and Bell Street until further notice. As of 2:30 Monday afternoon, workers cleared the blockage from the water main, allowing regular flow through the line. Work will continue through the rest of the week to determine the cause of the blockage and to evaluate the integrity of other sections of the line. Water quality test results from the river are expected sometime Tuesday morning.
