Tax Free Holiday

By: Mike Moritz
Updated: August 13, 2007
Local clothing merchants are stocking up and putting some items on sale. Tax free holiday has become very popular and requires stores to add staff. Curtis Simpson says "we hired additional people and have them in training. We added extra freight crews to handle the extra stuff coming in for tax free weekend." A new item on the non-taxed list this year is backpacks. Some clothing, like football equipment and shoes with cleats are not eligible. The savings is not just for school kids, clothing for infants and adults is also tax free this weekend. Curtis Simpson says "hunting and fishing licenses go on sale August 15. They can come in and get hunting and fishing vests tax free." Parents with several children needing school clothes might consider a thrift store. The already low prices will be offered tax free next weekend. Rickey Green says "some of it is new, some is used. Just have to go through the racks and you will find some good deals here. You will pay a percentage of full retail and we are also involved in tax free weekend." Christians in Action offers good clothes at bargain prices. Plus, the money raised helps the local community. Rickey Green says "you can find some good bargains. For example, I was looking for pants and found four pair of new Dockers for just $20." Friday morning shoppers will have the best selection.
