desk2007-08-11-1186877419.jpg  Dozens of families lined the streets of Downtown San Angelo for the annual back to school bonanza Saturday. The San Angelo Junior League opened it's doors to their thrift shop on Twohig Street to give away school supplies. The bonanza offered back to school clothing for children, backpacks, paper and writing utensils. Junior league members say it's important that children be ready for the first day of school.
In the years past we focused alot on school supplies, but with wonderful programs in the community like the heights and the D.E.S.K. program we really stepped back and focused on the toiletries and the outfits to get the child themselves physically ready to go and feel good about it. Says Angela Ocker-Baird .
The back to school bonanza also offered hearing and vision screenings and immunizations. The first day of school in San Angelo is Monday August 27th. And tax free weekend is next weekend the 17th through the 19th.
