roses2007-08-11-1186877200.jpgThe Shirley Floral company is getting ready for Good Neighbor Day this next week. The event is back by popular demand. Last year was supposed to be the last time Shriley Floral was going to celebrate the event. Thousands of folks walk through the shop receiving a free dozen roses..and in turn pass out a roses to friends and neighbors. At the flower shop Saturday volunteers were bundling the roses up and getting ready for the big event. Joe Paul Shirley says he had no choice but to continue the tradition.
Last year I said it was going to be the last Good Neighbor Day, but, five business leaders came to me and said 'No Joe it can't be the last good neighbor day, it's too great of a community project and too much joy is brought to our community and we want to see it continue. So, what will it take?' And they provided the funds to buy the roses for this year's Good Neighbor Day. Says Joe Paul Shirley.
Ten years ago Joe Paul Shriley began celebrating good neighbor day in San Angelo. 20-thousand roses will be handed out on Tuesday at Shriley Floral.
