Court Clerk Charged With Theft

A clerk who worked in the Tom Green County clerks office is charged with theft by a public servant.
23-year-old Monica Diaz is a former criminal deputy clerk -- and is accused of taking nearly one-thousand dollars...from the Tom Green County clerks office.
According to court documents, Diaz worked as a deputy criminal clerk when she took a bank bag with money and money orders.
An internal audit showed the clerks office in arrears by 945 dollars.
When questioned about the money, officers report Diaz admitted taking the money out of the clerks office and giving it to someone.
Because Diaz is a public servant the crime is considered a state jail felony....punishable by up to two years in prison and a ten-thousand dollar fine.
