US Senator John Cornyn made a stop in San Angelo Monday to launch a program benefitting the SAISD and other outlying school districts.

The Shannon Health and Wellness Catch in Motion Program received a $1.5Million shot in the arm as a result of a grant from the US Dept. of Education's office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.  The grant will provide for three specialists focusing on fitness, nutrition and education. Initiatives include 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise per week for children, as well as new Physical Education equipment . The program will be introduced to 14 school districts throughout West Central Texas, including SAISD.
