Sylvia McCleery said, "My parents instilled that in me. You know, you help other people then one day when you need help you will be helped."That's the attitude that motivated Sylvia McCleery to be a part of this year's United Way's Day of Caring.
McCleery said, "There were several events that went on through down town, I know there at Kirby Park they did some stuff for the smaller children and but stuff that the smaller children can use there at the park."
Sylvia says volunteering at events like this brings a great sense of pride and joy to her heart.
McCleery said, "You know it is very rewarding to go to someone's house who maybe in a wheelchair, they have small children, they are trying to get their back yards cleaned up so that they want their children to be safe in the back yard. So when you help someone that is in a wheel chair with small children to me that is very rewarding."
While the day long event is once a year, Sylvia says she will continue to lend a helping hand.
McCleery said, "I will be helping out until I need the help from someone. So as far as my health and everything I will be out there doing everything I can for the community."
