art2007-07-29-1185763707.jpgBringing attention to the downtown area is a new mural created by San Angelo woman Suzanne McGee. McGee says the mural tells the history of San Angelo.
A trip to Durango, Colorado inspired San Angelo native Suazanne McGee to create an art piece here in San Angelo.
I saw a map that they have done with special sights, in the city...and since then I've wanted to that for here. Says Muralist,Suzanne McGee.
The mural highlits several landmarks in San Angelo.
And of course you have the fire house that's been here forever. Of course the pearl of the concho. And uh...the Texas Movie theatre the way it looked the way 1930's. Says McGee.
Creating the piece not only required artistic ability, but Suzanne had to know the history of the city.
I knew a gentleman who had worked at the fire house, and he gave me a little history on that. With the Texas theatre I was supplied with some old photos to work on that. The Lady in Blue, who was a nun from Spain, and bought Christanity to the Indians here, back in the early 1600's. McGee says.
The mural is on display at the Cactus Hotel. JJKLST news.
