Ill miss the people...Ill miss going on campuses and thats why Ill have to do something to get back on campuses and around kids. For 36 years Joanne Rice has been involved in education, whether she was teaching or an administrator. This week she turned in her letter of resignation to the San Angelo school board. Id always heard that youll know when its time and sure enough I did. It was time to do something else. Rice says shell continue in her position as assistant superintendent until the end of the fall 2007 semester. And even though she is leaving the school district rice says she will continue to work in education. Ive had some people contact me about doing some training sessions and coming to their district trying to work on curriculum or working with their teachers working with their math teachers and so thats exciting. I think thatll be fun and teaching is my first passion. While she has thought about retirement the past few years she wanted to make sure the school district was headed in the right direction. I really feel like the district is doing great. Weve gotten our scores back from Taks. Were making such huge strides in that academic gap between the groups its just narrowing rapidly and you know I just see that everything is going in the right direction...Its time.
