After months of preparation, the 2007 Summer Arts Conservatory is in full swing, offering students a wide range of performing arts.

Kate Carr said, "The summer arts conservatory has been around every July for the last seven or eight years and we offer classes in drama, dance, arts, and music.  We invite teachers from outside of the city to come teach our students."

One of those teachers is Pat Adam, who has been teaching drama for the past four years at the conservatory and says this program is an opportunity for children to discover hidden talents.

Pat Adam said, "I think it is a wonderful thing that San Angelo has this to provide for the young people here."

Teachers and organizers feel the lessons learned at this week-long event will stay with the children forever.

"The arts really strengthen intellectual habits.  They strengthen learning they strengthen coordination they strengthen a child's ability to concentrate," said Carr.

Adam agrees and says these lessons allow the children to open their minds and explore.

So many times it is said, hold your imagination just look at this book and do what it says.  But in here it is a beautiful imagination world and they can create so many things," said Adam.

Toni Bravo is yet another teacher who made the trip to San Angelo to teach dance and ballet.  Bravo comes from the Ballet Austin organization and conservatory organizer Kate Carr says the talent she and the other teachers bring to the students is priceless.

"The one thing that we pride ourselves on is that we bring in instructors that students could register for say that they went away to camp if they went to drama camp or dance camp or band camp or something like that.  They would get the same type of instruction here in town at a very, very minimal cost," said Carr.

While this year's class registrations are over, you can still take part in the Live Lunches provided daily throughout the week.
