Thousands came to Austin this weekend to say a final farewell and to honor the incredible life of Lady Bird Johnson. Jay Gray has more from the state capital.
Rose Knedlik, who paid respects to Johnson, said, "I always loved her and respected her. She was such a lovely lady. And i kept her in my mind. I love her."
Thousands traveled to austin this weekend.. to say a personal good-bye to lady bird johnson.
As she continued her long trip home.. Mrs. Johnson was joined by a small group of women who perhaps understand better than anyone her amazing life.. Five of the six living first ladies traveled to Texas to honor Mrs. Johnson.
And representatives from every first family dating back to the eisenhower administration were a part of the private funeral service.
Two thousand joining her family.. for a final good-bye. Her grace and elegance.. a legacy.. that like the wildflowers she loved.. will continue to blossom. Now Lady Bird Johnson will be buried in the place she loved the most, the Texas Hill Country. Jay Gray NBC News Austin.
