
Anyone who has dined in at Zentner's Daughter Steak House restaurant has probably been greeted by Bernice Johnson.
I was working at Montgomery Ward for 20 years. I had a friend working at Zentners' on Sherwood Way. I 'reckoned they would let me go work for them. So he told Tony Zentners to tell me to come. I went out there and that's where I started. Says Bernice Johnson.
After more than 50 years of being a hostess...Johnson was awarded the 'Hostess of the Year' award by the San Angelo Restaurant Association.
It made me feel wonderful, because I knew it was the people. They wrote letters and it made me feel good. Because the people is why I'm here. Says

Johnson says she's well past retirement age, and doesn't have to work. She feels that it's important to give the right first impression when walking into the restaurant.
Well it makes them feel welcome. It makes them feel good that we're happy that they're here. Because they're coming in to dine in with you. And you got make them feel the best, says Johnson
Now that Bernice Johnson has taken home the 'Hostess of the Year' award and has greeted hundreds of people through the years, she doesn't have plans to stop working anytime soon.
