The community of Wall had its own Independence Day parade Wednesday.

This was the first year for the event. Organizers said it started out with an e-mail and became a great community effort. The Wall Volunteer Fire Department took part in the parade as did children and adults who wanted to thank our country's finest. One of the parade's volunteers said it was also about showing our younger children the importance of July fourth.

Julie Halfmann, parade volunteer, said, "We wanted them to know that it's more than fireworks and barbecue but it's about freedom and it's about veterans. So we're here to honor the veterans, our grandpas, our fathers who have served and the ones who are serving from our community now."

Community members and children will soon be sending care packages to troops in Iraq.
