The price that San Angeloan’s will pay in the future for their water and wastewater will soon take a hike, City Council member Dwain Morrison acknowledges the increase and knows it’s a necessary.
Before the same incident which occurred late last year, a memory that water utilities director Will Wilde recalls.

“Just as we can remember not long ago in December the tremendous with one of the pipeline systems in the town, this rate increase allows us to begin addressing those type of situations by correcting the old equipment that we have in the systems here and begin upgrading of the system to provide for the growth here in San Angelo.” Wilde says.

After a year in the works and a 6-1 decision with Daniel Cardenas opposing, the City Council took the final step Tuesday morning in adopting a new water and wastewater rate.

“Overall the combined amount between water and wastewater both will be around $12.00 per month increase with both of the fees together,” Wilde says.

You can expect to start seeing an increase on your water bill as of August however projects are already in the works in certain areas of the city.

Morrison says, “This money is being used to service a debt that we have incurred so people will be able to fix this so we’re trying to service the water in house with the money that we have. We have borrowed money to fix our sewer system and the increase of the rates is simply to payback the money that we borrowed to fix the problem.”

The last rate adjustment was two years ago.
