Gas Prices Going Up Again

Drivers in the Concho Calley and across the state of Texas have noticed a sudden increase in gas prices.
The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline has jumped almost 40 cents over the last two weeks including 14 cents this past week.
"Drivers have really felt a pinch at the pump over the last week," Shupe said, "the state wide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Texas is now $3.38. That's actually up 14 cents from one week ago."
Shupe said gas prices higher because production is slower.
"We tend to see a spike in this time of year and that's because a lot of the refineries have planned maintenance this time of year because the weather is nicer," Shupe said, "so with those planned maintenance routines, there is some stoppage of the refineries and of course that is going to cause the price hike."
Shupe said another reason for the increased prices is due to recent positive economic growth and that has aslo lead to an increased demand in fuel.
"It is kind of like a double edged sword because when you do see more positive economic news that's going to lead to a greater demand for fuel especially in some of the larger commerce areas here in the state of Texas."
Shupe said that it is hard to determine future fluxuations of gas prices, so it is unknown the next time Texans will see prices under $3.00 a gallon.
"Because we never have that magic crystal ball to see where these gas prices are going to go, it is just too difficult to determine where they are going to be a couple of weeks from now, a couple of months from now."
