Beginning next week, a new smart phone app is coming to Angelo State University that will provide some assurance for students walking across the campus at A-S-U or anywhere, anytime of the day or night..

"Every school in the United States has students that fear going to class; we are trying to provide a service to these students to allow them to feel comfortable, confident, and empower them."

Peter Cahill is the founder of the app and he said students will have direct contact to 911 at any point 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. By simply pressing a button while walking through a dark parking lot or going out for a run, when you remove your finger from the screen, a timed alarm will sound and the police will be notified instantly.

Cahill said this is just a new tool to help students feel safe on campus.

"We can supply real-time information to the police and deploy them to the specific location. Your phone until now, has never been able to deliver a product like this. We are trying to eradicate rape, and sexual assaults."

There are two versions of the lifeline app -- one for students called lifeline edu-- and another available for anyone called life line response, for a one time charge.

You can get more information on the website: llresponse.com.
