"We lost a lot of dealerships and a lot of manufacturers at that time."
But as the oil boom continues in west Texas, so does the need for homes for oil workers.
Treva Boyd is the owner of American Truck and RV and has already seen the impact of the boom.
"It's increased our business already 15-20 percent , so as it moves more into San Angelo, it will only do better."
According to Boyd, some companies are purchasing up to 12 trailers at a time for their workers .
She says if you head to Eldorado, Big Lake or anywhere along I-20 you'll see groups of rv's known as "man-camps."
"You'll see these camps sprung up all along the way, and people are realizing that this business is not just good for the oil company, but it's good for everyone."
Boyd says the increase of rv's is allowing for more workers to be closer to the rigs and will increase productivity.
Like many west Texas businesses, this increase in sales is only just the beginning.
"What's to come is good for Texas as a whole so we're in it for the long haul."
