naacp2007-06-06-1181174544.jpgIt has been nearly a week since local high school seniors walked the stage and received their high school diplomas, but news of more scholarship money is still coming in. The latest scholarship money is coming from the local chapter of the NAACP.
NAACP Scholarship Committee Member Sandra Gray said, "We had seven applicants and seven people will receive moneys." Gray is talking about seven recent high school graduates that have set their sights on higher education. Gray said, "Wherever they decide to go, and they are furthering there education, we are helping them."
The NAACP scholarships were not given away randomly. Scholarship recipients were selected by members of the NAACP Scholarship Committee after students applied by writing an essay. NAACP members plan to give away more scholarships next year, and say they hope even more students will apply.
