Emergency crews respond to a potentially explosive traffic accident.
The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, DPS Troopers, and the Quail Valley Fire Department responded to a roll over accident just after 1 o'clock Monday afternoon on North US Highway 277. DPS officials say 42 year old San Angelo man Rodney Metcalf was headed south on 277 when he fell asleep at the wheel. Metcalf woke up, over-corrected, and lost control of the commerical truck he was driving, causing it roll over. The truck came to rest on the passenger side in the southbound lane, just before the Red Creek Bridge. Officials say Metcalf was carrying blast well explosives on board. The driver, who refused medical treatment, was sited for failure to drive in a single lane.
