The school year may be over for students, but it is just beginning for some SAISD employee.

The summer food service program kicks off Tuesday and organizers say they are ready to serve. It’s non-stop action at the San Angelo I.S.D. Food Service Department. Nutrition and Wellness Coordinator Betty Teston said, “We’ve actually continued serving meals again, starting tomorrow with our summer meal program.” Teston and her co-workers are preparing to help serve thousands of meals to local students this summer. Teston said, “In June we are looking at about 700 for breakfast at our different sites, and about 13 to 14 hundred for lunch.” The food will be prepared and served at one of seven different locations around town. Teston said, “They are free for breakfast and lunch for kids one to 18, and all they have to do is show up. They don’t have to fill out any paper work, or register, just come out and have a healthy meal in the summer time.” If you have any questions about times and specific locations of the summer food program, call 659-3615.
